Forest Blend currently features coffee from Fazenda, Santa Rita. Fazenda is located in the beautiful Serra da Mantiqueira, known as the Mantiqueira Mountains, in the border area of Sao Paulo. This region stands out for the quality of coffee produced there.

The name Mantiqueira derives from a Tupi word, meaning “mountains that cry”, denoting the vast number of springs and streams that envelop the mountain. The range acts as an essential source of drinking water for a number of important cities in south-east Brazil.

At almost 1,250 masl, the farm’s deep, well drained soils, and crops formed in the Arabica Catuai coffee variety was the reason the family acquired this land back in 2000. Of its 215 acres, 80 hectares are dedicated to cultivating the Catuai varietal. The high altitudes and tropical mountain climate favour the slow maturation of the coffee, resulting in its unique profile. 

This Catuai varietal is processed using the Natural Method. After harvest, the cherries are selectively picked for their ripeness and taken to dry on patios, where they undergo frequent turning. They are covered at night to prevent any spoilage, and in several weeks will be fully dried and ready for the next stage. Once dry, the coffee is sent to a dry mill to be hulled, which is the final process before it arrives with us in the roastery.
